چکیده
– The cuttlefish’s inner shell, better known under the name “cuttlebone”, is a complex structure that has been studied by scientists since nearly two centuries. indeed, this shell which is involved in tissue support and buoyancy regulation unites useful properties such as high mechanical resistance, porosity and permeability. Moreover, this ostensibly straight shell is unique in extant and known extinct cephalopods and thus of great interest to better understand the evolution of this mollusk group. However, despite various studies dedicated to the evolutionary history, the morphology, the microstructure, the composition and the functioning of this shell, a lot of open questions persist. Based on detailed pictures originating from adult and juvenile stages, this review aims to critically scrutinize data about the known structures of the Sepia officinalis shell and to describe its setting up during early-life stages in order to improve our understanding of the establishment of this elaborate structure. Composition in essential and non-essential elements of early stages of cephalopods and dietary effects on the elemental profiles of Octopus vulgaris paralarvae
During the present study, we aimed at providing a first look at the elemental composition of the early stages of cephalopods as an approach to their elemental requirements in culture. Essential and non-essential elemental profiles of the European cuttlefish Sepia officinalis, the European squid Loligo vulgaris and the common octopus Octopus vulgaris laboratory hatchlings and wild juveniles were...
متن کاملBiokinetics of Hg and Pb accumulation in the encapsulated egg of the common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis: radiotracer experiments.
Uptake and depuration kinetics of dissolved (203)Hg and (210)Pb were determined during the entire embryonic development of the eggs of the cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis (50d at 17 degrees C). (203)Hg and (210)Pb were accumulated continuously by the eggs all along the development time reaching load/concentration ratio (LCR) of 467+/-43 and 1301+/-126g, respectively. During the first month, most ...

متن کاملVariation of heavy metal concentrations (Ag, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, V, and Zn) during the life cycle of the common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis.
The developmental changes in the concentration of 8 essential and non-essential heavy metals (Ag, Cd, Cu, Co, Fe, Pb, V, Zn) in the tissues (digestive gland, cuttlebone and whole animal) of the common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis collected in the bay of the river Seine were monitored from the end of the embryogenesis until the adult reproductive stage. Compared to embryos, juveniles after hatch...
متن کاملContrasting accumulation biokinetics and distribution of 241 Am , Co , Cs , Mn and Zn during the whole development time of the eggs of the common cuttlefish , Sepia officinalis
Cuttlefish eggs were exposed to 241 Am, Co, Cs, Mn and Zn for different periods of time during the 50-d of the embryonic development at 17°C. Exposures were carried out using background dissolved concentrations of the metals, using the corresponding γ-emitting radiotracers
